Sree Manappullykavu Bhagavathy Temple

A saintly Brahmin once prayed and perfected the Manappully Bhagavathy, so the folklore goes. He did the prayers in his kitchen which is also known as “Madappalli”. That must have, in course of time and usage, become “Manappulli”. This Brahmin's house was part of the “Yagakkara” where Agnihothra yagas were performed. This in turn must have changed to become “Yakkara”, the present name.

During the course of the Ashtamangala Prasnam conducted in the temple during September 2007, it transpired that several yagas were performed for centuries together in this place.

The main deity Goddess Manappully Bhagavathi is facing North and the idol is made of the trunk of jackfruit tree. Just below, there is a small stone idol facing west. The Ashtamangala Prasnam revealed that the idol which is facing north is very ancient.

Chandaabhishekam and special Alangaras are done on this idol. Abhishekam with water, milk, panchagavyam, etc. are done on the stone idol (Archana vigraham).

Sree Manappulli Bhagavathi is Lord Shiva's daughter and She is Bhadrakaali. She was born out of the sacred “jada” of Lord Shiva during the Dakshayaga. Sree Manappulli Bhagavathi is black in colour, with four hands, each one having shoolam, kapaalam, Gadkam, and Khedam, three eyes, four big teeth, with beautiful dresses, several ornaments, in ghost vahana, very bright and shining, and fearful in appearance is well known to satisfy the desires of the devotees. It is said that the Goddess will be there whenever any devotee calls with devotion.
